Getting Off The Roller Coaster
After having my first child, I struggled with my weight. Up/down, happy/sad, proud/devastated. I was on an emotional roller coaster. I desperately wanted to get down to a certain weight, put on the cruise control, and just coast. I read many articles and books on weight loss, and tried almost every diet out there. Finally, a light bulb lit up in my head. I figured it out!
This lifestyle change has been tried and thoroughly tested. I perfected it plan over the years. For the last ten years, it has worked for me like magic. I really have this weight loss and weight management thing down to a science. I don’t diet or eat or drink low fat, sugar free, diet food and beverages. This is not a diet; it really is a lifestyle change. I know what I can eat and drink, and things to avoid. After reading this article, you will too. I can still enjoy a lot of things I love, feel great, and have never been happier.
To start, it will be better if you understand “why” you can or cannot have certain things. You may also be more willing to cooperate and stay motivated long enough to see some results. You can do this. Keep telling yourself that, because it’s true. You deserve to be your best self, feel proud, and look awesome!
How Your Body Works
Let’s start with how the body works. Our bodies are designed to burn fat and carbs. The trick is, it can’t burn both at the same time. If both are available, by default, it burns carbs (carbohydrates) first. Mostly because this is the quickest way to get energy to use throughout the day. Carbs are easier for the body to access and use, but there are two downsides to that. The first downside is the body will burn carbs until your metabolism slows down, then it will store the fat. For survival purposes (just in case you’re in a situation where you can’t access food), if it runs out of carbs it will automatically start burning fat. However, in most cases, there will be plenty of carbs to burn and the fat will surely be stored.
The second downside to carbs burning mode is the crash and burn consequence. You are going and going and going, then all of a sudden, your energy is depleted and you are falling asleep on someone’s couch or getting fast food because you’re too tired to cook dinner. While you are sluggish and almost completely depleted of energy, the body starts preparing to store your consumed fat. See where this is going? The plan is to outsmart the body by making sure there are very few carbs available, forcing the body to finish burning carbs fast then have plenty of time left in a day to burn fat. It burns all fat, freshly eaten fat and previously stored fat too. The energy from fat burning is consistent, without the crash and burn effect, making this is the best method for losing weight and maintaining your goal weight.
Fat Burning Mode vs. Carbs Burning Mode
Let’s dive deeper into carbs burning mode and fat burning mode. As you already know, the body is automatically in carbs burning mode because carbs are usually readily available. It takes approximately two weeks to trigger the body to go into fat burning mode. To do that, in those two weeks, you must minimize your carbs and eat more healthy fats.
To lose weight fast, you must also speed up your metabolism. You can do this by eating every 3-4 hours per day. That’s three meals with a snack between meals. Keep reading and I’ll give you an eating schedule to copy and print.
Once your body is in fat burning mode, you will lose 1-2 pounds per day, seriously. Please be strong for the two weeks it takes your body to get into fat burning mode. Certain bacteria lives on sugar. Therefore, it won’t give up easy. You will think about and even dream about desserts. Your cravings will be very strong. That’s the bacteria calling for dinner. However, if you resist the cravings, the bacteria will begin to die and the cravings will eventually go away. During this time, you may even experience flu-like symptoms. That’s called the die off effect, or
Basically, it’s a response to toxins released by bacteria and fungus when they are being starved or killed by antibiotics and antifungal medications. Symptoms of Candida die-off can be frightening because they come on suddenly and make you feel very bad, very fast. They are determined to make you stop killing them and will put up a good fight. Symptoms usually last about a week. At that point, enough bacteria and fungus have died and there aren’t enough toxins being released to have any effect on the body. Some people say it was the worst week of their lives, but if you can stay strong enough not to give in to the cravings and downright bullying of the bacteria and fungus, it’s all downhill from there.
Although it takes two weeks to trigger your body into fat burning mode, to send your body back into carbs burning mode all you need to do is eat a few sugary snacks or drink sugary beverages a few times consistently. It’s just that fast and simple. After getting back in carbs burning mode, you’ll wake up some dormant bacteria and fungus, they’ll multiply because they have the food again that they need to survive, some bad health problems will return, and you’ll gain the weight back for sure. That’s why this is called a lifestyle change. You have to be in it for the long run. Be careful, aware, determined, and smart.
What You Can Eat and Drink
You can have fried foods! Of course, there’s a catch to everything. The catch: You can only use ghee or grapeseed oil to fry or sauté your food. The reason for that is most oils that you think are safe to fry become carcinogenic (can cause cancer) when heated past their smoke point. The smoke point for ghee and grapeseed oil is 500 degrees Fahrenheit. No food needs to cook at a temperature higher than that, making them safe to fry or sauté your food.
Oils, such as coconut and olive, have a low smoke point and should be used at room temperature on a salad or drizzled on toast, etc.
You can have ½ of a cup of fruit per day. I discovered the best way to enjoy such a small portion is to freeze your fruit. Grapes, berries, and a half of a banana (or one of those dwarf bananas) make a great frozen snack. A frozen banana tastes like a banana pop sickle, no joke. Frozen fruit lasts longer too, because you can’t gobble it up real fast then wish you could have more.
After about two weeks of doing anything consistently, the body will get on board with your new routine. We are resilient and can adjust to almost anything if we remind ourselves that we can. Although you can have vegetables, limit root vegetables (vegetables that grows under the ground) to small portions. Examples of root vegetables are:
- Turnip root
- Onions and shallots
- Sweet potatoes
The reason to limit these vegetables is because they are starchy, sweet, and high in carbs. Treat them the same as you do fruit, except I wouldn’t recommend eating them frozen. LOL!
No cake, cookies, pies, other desserts, sweeten beverages of any kind, etc. (Don’t kill the messenger. LOL!)
Drink only water, unsweetened coffee or tea, mineral water, unsweetened milk. If you want to lose weight fast, have glowing skin, and more energy, choose water 90% of the time.
No diet beverages, or beverages sweetened with anything like sorbitol, erythritol, etc. Although these sugars are considered sugar alcohols, and are found naturally in fruits and vegetables, when produced industrially, they are altered and changed to an unhealthy state. To narrow down the beverages you can or cannot have, if it’s sweet, you cannot have it, period.
Your food must consist of meats, vegetables, and very little fruit. You can have bread, rice, and pasta (white because wheat is turned into sugar when digested) but treat them as side dishes in very small (sample size) portions, not the main dish of a meal.
Choose Your Salt Wisely
Table salt does your body harm. It raises your blood pressure, dehydrates you, and causes water retention (water weight), which will be discouraging when you step on the scale. Instead, opt for sea salt, preferably pink Himalayan. I use both white and pink sea salt because sometimes the pink one doesn’t dissolve well and can taste gritty, like you have sand in your food. However, very fine pink Himalayan salt usually dissolves well in any dish.
Avoid Avoid Avoid!
Avoid processed food, if possible. Not only is it very unhealthy, you can have much more “real food” for less calories or fat, and feel satisfied longer.
Using this plan (because we don’t diet), you’ll lose one pound for sure, but if you exercise at least 30 minutes per day, you will most likely lose two.
Pick a time that’s best for you but it’s better to eat after
you exercise because your metabolism is ready and waiting for something to burn. Hint: if you plan to eat fruit, do it as early as possible so your body has time to burn it and concentrate on burning fat for the remainder of the day. Reward yourself with fruit after a good exercise, you will actually look forward to exercising daily, and your body will burn the calories right up.
I found a dance routine on YouTube that is only a few minutes long and worked every part of my body. It was over quick, I learned so new dance moves, and I saw major results that made me very proud of myself. You can build up to something longer or fall in love with an exercise machine of some sort, but don’t burn yourself out. You will get to your goal. Be patient. No need to rush it.
When to Weigh Yourself
Your actual weight is early morning, naked, after you have emptied your bladder and/or bowels, but before you eat or drink anything. Simple as that.
As promised, here’s your eating schedule:
After you wake up and brush your teeth, drink an 8 to 16 oz bottle water straight. This will give you a large amount of energy that you’ll need to burn fat. It will also wake up your organs, and moisturize your skin from the inside out.
6:00 AM – Eat breakfast. Try to include a hot cup of unsweetened tea. It’s an acquired taste. You’ll eventually love it. Hot tea will help the body melt the fat away. Avoid foods and condiments high in sugar. No juices
9:00 AM- Enjoy a snack, such as:
- ½ cup of fruit
- ½ tuna or chicken sandwich with a small bag of low carb chips
- Tuna fish and melba toast
- Vegetables and ranch
- Plain Greek yogurt with fresh berries
- A small salad, etc.
- Drink water or mineral water
12:00 PM- Have a healthy lunch. Make lunch bigger than a snack but smaller than dinner. Enjoy a hot cup of tea
3:00 PM- Enjoy another snack with water or mineral water
6:00 PM- It’s dinner time! This is the biggest meal, most well rounded, and last meal of the day. Eat a large amount of vegetables (you may include a small amount of root vegetables), medium amount of meat cooked any way you like, hot cup of unsweetened tea or coffee.
Nothing to Eat After Dinner
Do not skip snacks or meals. Remember, eating 5 times a day is how your metabolism will get in shape, be able to burn stored fat, and help you reach your desired weight goal in a healthy, long-lasting way. However, after dinner, it’s over. Your metabolism has most likely slowed down too much to burn much of anything. Besides, you want to see one pound less on that scale in the morning. Allow your body to rest and relax until tomorrow.
Control Your Portions
If you are a foodie, or accustomed to over eating, drink a cup of water before dinner. This will fill up some space in your stomach. The water will help the food satisfy your hunger.
Don’t Skip the Tea!
Teas contain catechins,
a type of antioxidant that triggers the release of fat from fat cells and helps speed the liver’s capacity for turning fat into energy. And the caffeine in many teas increases your energy use, causing your body to burn more calories.
Hot Tea Can Actually Cool You Down
That’s right, hot tea can cool you down, even in a heatwave. It works by making you sweat. Sweat, of course, works by absorbing some of the body’s heat, and then evaporating into the air, taking that heat with it. However, for the sweat-based reduction in temperature to work, you need to let all the sweat evaporate.
You can add a few drops of Ceylon cinnamon bark oil to a 16 oz bottle water (to your liking). It’s spicy but it adds sweetness. Bacteria or fungus can’t feed off it and they will surely die trying. It has anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Cinnamon reduces the risk of cancer, heart attacks, atherosclerosis, inflammatory disease, and promotes weight loss by speeding up the metabolism. It can also prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, and promotes wound healing. In addition, cinnamon has also been used for various skin conditions.
Be sure to shake the bottle well before each sip because oil and water doesn’t mix, the oil will settle at the top, and if you make a mistake and drink pure cinnamon oil, I promise you will be extra careful to never make that mistake again. It burns like hell. You can also add Ceylon cinnamon bark oil or powder to your tea or sprinkle the powder on your fruit.
Make sure the bottle specifically states that it’s 100% pure
Ceylon cinnamon bark oil or Cinnamomum zeylanicum and NOT:
- Cassia cinnamon
- Chinese cassia
- Chinese cinnamon
- Cinnamomum aromaticum
- Cinnamomum cassia
Cassia cinnamon contains a chemical called coumarin. Taking large amounts of coumarin can cause liver damage in some people, especially those who have liver disease.
Hold in Your Stomach
To get and maintain a flat stomach, practice holding your stomach in as tight as you can. At first, it’s challenging. You will feel the burn! It exercises your stomach muscles the same as doing sit-ups or crunches. However, if you do it consistently, not only will the burn go away but you will begin to do it effortlessly, out of habit, and you will have a six pack as a reward.
You will do great with this plan. Make yourself proud, however, do not reward your accomplishments with food. Instead, reward yourself with new clothes that will most likely be a size smaller than you wore before. Seeing those numbers go down (size) on the tags of your clothes will definitely boost your self esteem and give you the courage to keep moving towards your weight loss goal.
If you mess up or fall weak, don’t be too hard on yourself. Simply take a deep breath, say some motivating words to yourself in the mirror, and get back on track!
