Many countries were in conflict with the other at a point. A conflict arises when there is a dispute on any issue between the two countries. The open conflicts result in war. This forces a country to use violence in fighting another country to protect its people and the economy. War and conflict have divided the world, brought about racism and biases. War, conflict, and crisis have divided countries and even small tribes.

Conflict Between Countries

It is easier to predict the trend, which a global conflict will take only by looking at the local disputes. War, crisis, and conflict are all related, and doubts between rivals gas them. In addition to that, it is likely for violence to occur when a battle or war starts. Environmental, economic, political, and social trends result in conflict in countries.

Afghanistan

The war in Afghanistan has lasted for many decades. More people have lost their lives mainly because of fighting for the country. Afghanistan has a history of the continued war as compared to any other country in the world. In addition to that, there have been separate attacks from the Islamic State militants and the Taliban. During this unending war, presidential elections still took place, and the authorities announced the current President Ashraf Ghani.

When a country is going through a tough time, holding an election is the last thing to do. The crisis and conflict can arise if the favorite candidate loses. Leaders must vow to bring peace and unity between conflicted countries and the citizens. They should want everyone around the world to come together and socialize peacefully.

Ethiopia

Abiy Ahmed

In East Africa, Ethiopia is the country with most of the population and is a strong state too. Ethiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, assumed office in the year 2018. He made a bold move in bringing the country’s politics in the open. Abiy Ahmed took the first step and ended the war with the neighboring country Eritrea, which lasted for a whole decade. He brought back the rebels who were in exile, freed political prisoners. He appointed different reformers to different significant institutions. This shows that the prime minister wanted to bring peace and unity to the country. However, the prime minister faced some challenges, which resulted in ethnic problems, especially in Ethiopia’s most populous regions.

United States- North Korea

The presidents of United States and North Korea

North Korea and United States have had diplomatic and political relations, which have been hostile in history. Everyone who is a fan of politics can recall the year 2017. The US president, Donald Trump, and the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un threatened each other with a nuclear wipe-out. According to the United States president, they were ready to cause “fire and fury” in early August of 2017. The threat was for North Korea to make them stop the nuclear testing and threats against the united states soil.

War Among Nations

War among nations takes a trend where they occur and recur, within a short period. It is intense and usually occurs between societies, states, or governments. Different features define a war. The main qualities of war include violence, destruction, and the use of force. However, war does not just happen by chance. There is usually a trigger and the society or the government is never happy with the different triggers of war.

Causes of War

Religion

Religious war among nations occurs when two leaders of two different nations have different religious beliefs. Mostly, one religion increases the number of its members by trying to take away members of other religions. In such a case, there will be no between the two religious groups. Religious leaders fail to accept that they are making such decisions based on their choice, instead usually claim that they are following an ordained path.

Territorial Gain

Territorial conflict between nations occurs when one country wants to acquire more land, either for domestic or agricultural use, from another country forcefully. Well, it is evident that the victim state will not be happy when an intruder invades their territory, and this is the beginning of war.

Economic Gain

When one country wishes to take control of another country’s wealth, an economic conflict occurs. Actually, all causes of war are linked to economical gain from the aggressor. In the ancient times, economical gains included acquiring land, livestock, gold or silver. Things have changed over the course of time, and in the present era, economic war aggressors have an underlying motive of acquiring materials used in manufacturing, oil and even minerals.

Revenge

The past events usually aggravate revenge. A nation may seek revenge on another country especially when they perceive a threat from their past aggressors. In addition to that, revenge leads to nationalism, where people whose country has been attacked, fight back their attackers on behalf of their country. It is difficult to stop this trend because it results to a chain of endless retaliation.

Effects of War Among Nations

Whenever war occurs, there are effects that affect the health and the overall well-being of the nation. Conflict in a nation causes more distraction and harm to the economy of a country as compared to any other negative factors. Whenever war occurs, it causes a strain in the development of the nation. There are always negative effects on families, communities, and society as a whole. Some of the negative effects of war among nations include the following:

Mass Destruction

Weapons used for destruction

Destroying of personal and public property is the main negative effect of war among nations. In addition to that, people may destroy the nation’s infrastructure, which in turn affects the operations of the country. This has a negative effect on education, infrastructure, and health system. The war countries lower down in the quality of education. War affects education infrastructures as well.

Displacement

In addition to the above, war and violence have also displaced people from their homes. People move away from their homes, to a different location because of the fear of losing their lives and families. As a result, the population is displaced either internally or externally.

Labor Force

When a conflict occurs, men usually leave their jobs and fight against the enemy, to protect their families and the nation. When this happens, women hold onto the men’s positions until they come back from war. However, women get used to their work and find it difficult to quit their jobs and surrender their positions when a war between nations is over. This forces men to look for other jobs while the women are working to sustain their families. This brings family conflicts especially in homes and communities where the man is expected to be the provider.

Education

When a country is experiencing conflict and war, poverty levels increase, resulting in a decrease in education. Teachers, students, and the building become targets of the war. The violence forces the school management to put the learning process on hold. War puts the lives of teachers at risk, and most of them resort to absenteeism.

Trade Conflict

A display of currencies from different countries

This is an economic conflict that results from extreme protection, where countries create trade barriers against each other, in response to the trade barrier, created by the other party. Furthermore, this type of conflict escalates very fast when one party violated the new trade agreement. A trade conflict affects the community and the overall economy. For instance, until the settlement of the conflict, a business may stop investing in new ventures. When this happens, different jobs will have a slower growth rate. This affects consumer spending.

United States-China Trade War

A flag of the united States and China

The trade conflict between the United States and China over currency and tariffs does not seem to go away anytime soon. This started when the United States president, Donald Trump, imposed ten percent tariffs on Chinese goods, which amounted to three hundred billion dollars. This reduced the Beijing currency to eleven years low. United States fought back by naming China a manipulator of currency. This trade conflict affected the consumers in several ways, some of which include the following:

Increase in Prices

A bank note with up and down arrow

The first early rounds of tariffs on Chinese goods did not seem to have affected the consumers in any way, but after announcing the ten percent cut, prices of almost everything that Americans buy increased rapidly.

Reduced Interest Rates

A decrease in interest rate

When the Federal Reserves lowered interest rate, trade tension was mentioned as the main risk to the economy. When the decline between the United States and Beijing occurred, the action taken by the Central Bank was not what was expected. In case this situation worsened, the Federal Reserve was going to cut the rates more, in attempt to save the economy. However much mortgage rates became affordable, people earned less interest on their savings and this was a loss to the consumers.

Ongoing Conflicts

War in Catatumbo

The campaign in Catatumbo has been an ongoing conflict and violence since January 2018, between the militias of Catatumbo region of Venezuela and Colombia. This conflict is an extension on the war on drugs and developed after the peace progress in Colombia in 2018. Things became real, the existence of the war was announced in mid-2019, and it was reported that the war affected an estimated number of people. The militia group that was operating in Catatumbo region on the Venezuela side, declared war on the other groups of the Colombia side. The militia groups engaged in violent strategies such as kidnapping, murder, sexual violence and forceful displacement. Many people were killed and among them were human rights defenders.

Persian Gulf Crisis

The 2019-2020 Persian gulf crisis is also known as the Iran-America confrontation and has become worse and brought about military tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America. The United States built up its military in the Persian region in attempt to stop the planned campaign by Iran and its allies, to attack the American forces. This in turn increased the tension between the two countries and the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. In retaliation, Iran declared the United States Central Command as a terrorist organization.

Peace and Unity

A white woman and black man holding hands

Conflict between countries changes the operations and the economy of the country negatively. Education and healthcare are affected in that children will no longer go to school and the healthcare system will diminish because of few or no doctors at work. This means that the overall productivity of a country will go down and no investor can invest in a country where return on investment is not promised. However, conflicts and war should not bring hate and separation among the people, but should strengthen their bond and bring peace and unity at the end. Leaders should vow to bring peace and unity, and encourage people to communicate with other freely, have an open mind and love.
